Checklist for Personalizing Your Wedding Response Cards

wedding-response-cardsThe wedding response card is the single most important component of your wedding invitation suite. Returned response cards tally your final headcount, menu selections, and provide correspondence with your guests. Make the most of this small card with our helpful checklist for personalizing your wedding response cards, starting with the basics:

  • Pre-addressed, stamped envelopes

Make it easy as for guests to get their response into the mail. Pre-stamp response card envelopes and print the return address directly onto the back flap. The address does not have to match the return address on the outer envelope of your wedding invitation, but should be for whomever is keeping track of your guest count.

  • RSVP date

Always request replies with a due date. If you’re mailing wedding invitations the recommended 8 weeks in advance, request replies 4 weeks before your wedding day. If mailing 6 weeks before, request replies 3 weeks before your wedding day. Also find out when your venue and caterer needs a final headcount.

  • Number attending line

Make it easy for guests to write in the number of people attending your wedding. This is especially important when inviting families, married couples who may decide for travel or expense reasons that only one will attend, or single guests who may bring a companion.

  • Menu selections

Your wedding response cards are the perfect way to get an entree count for a formal, sit-down wedding reception. Your  caterer can help provide simplified wording for your menu selections. Find out when they need that final entree count to help determine the reply due date.

  • Dietary requests

Whether or not you are tracking entree selections from guests, you or your caterer may want to know about any important dietary restrictions, especially potentially life-threatening allergies to possible menu options, such as shellfish or nuts.

  • Thematic response cards

Entertain your guests with unique or humorous response options. Word your response options in a way that ties into your wedding day theme or venue. One such response we’ve enjoyed came from a couple having their wedding at an oceanographic institute. The response card gave guests the following options to check:

YES, I think whales are cool. NO, I’m afraid of whales.

  • Special requests

Want guests to choose their ice cream for the sundae bar? What about collecting wedding song requests? The response card is the perfect place to involve your guests a bit more in the planning of a great party.
