Watching the Oscars last night got us thinking. Partly because the show was slow, as usual, but mostly because we’re always thinking about the great baby names that we see on beautiful baby birth announcement cards.

So with Jennifer Lawrence’s big, stumbling win last night for Best Actress, the natural question for us was, just how much will The Hunger Games become a cultural axis for baby name influences?

As recently explored in Parents magazine’s listing of hot baby names, the teen literary trilogy turned hit movie isn’t likely to push the name Jennifer as much as it could floral-inspired names of other pivotal characters. Rose (Primrose) and Clove are two, even if Katniss herself hasn’t really appeared on the radar. Rue, however, seems to be the winner for now, and it’s not a floral name at all. As for the boys’ names from the story, villain Cato is a name growing in popularity, but no word on the name Peta for now.

Small Screen Names for Baby Birth Announcement Cards

Other sources also predict heavy influences outside of the big screen. Singer-celeb sources with names like Adele and Cyrus are growing in popularity, as are singer’s own children’s names. Ivy is one such name increasing in popularity, despite some initial ridicule to superstar Beyonce and Jay-Z’s new daughter, Blue Ivy.

Small screen influences like the television cable hit Downton Abby are keeping many British classics on the list and pushing a few of them into the top 100 for the first time in a while. Violet and Cora have both made big moves on the list recently, with experts expecting Iris and Millie to do the same. We can probably count on William and Kate to continue as mainstay names on many a baby birth announcement card for the time being. And speaking of, we can virtually count on the huge influence their own baby will have on baby names for 2013!
