Oscar-inspired Baby Names for Birth Announcement Cards

baby-birth-announcement-cards

Animal Print by Genevieve Gail

Watching the Oscars last night got us thinking. Partly because the show was slow, as usual, but mostly because we’re always thinking about the great baby names that we see on beautiful baby birth announcement cards.

So with Jennifer Lawrence’s big, stumbling win last night for Best Actress, the natural question for us was, just how much will The Hunger Games become a cultural axis for baby name influences?

As recently explored in Parents magazine’s listing of hot baby names, the teen literary trilogy turned hit movie isn’t likely to push the name Jennifer as much as it could floral-inspired names of other pivotal characters. Rose (Primrose) and Clove are two, even if Katniss herself hasn’t really appeared on the radar. Rue, however, seems to be the winner for now, and it’s not a floral name at all. As for the boys’ names from the story, villain Cato is a name growing in popularity, but no word on the name Peta for now.

Small Screen Names for Baby Birth Announcement Cards

Other sources also predict heavy influences outside of the big screen. Singer-celeb sources with names like Adele and Cyrus are growing in popularity, as are singer’s own children’s names. Ivy is one such name increasing in popularity, despite some initial ridicule to superstar Beyonce and Jay-Z’s new daughter, Blue Ivy.

Small screen influences like the television cable hit Downton Abby are keeping many British classics on the list and pushing a few of them into the top 100 for the first time in a while. Violet and Cora have both made big moves on the list recently, with experts expecting Iris and Millie to do the same. We can probably count on William and Kate to continue as mainstay names on many a baby birth announcement card for the time being. And speaking of, we can virtually count on the huge influence their own baby will have on baby names for 2013!

Milestone Birthdays Prompt Tough, Important Questions

birthday party invitationsIt can sneak up fast, but a milestone birthday party for a parent or other loved one presents an opportunity to do more than just send out birthday party invitations. Planning a milestone birthday is the perfect time to ask thoughtfully-worded questions about your parent’s health and financial well-being.

It’s not easy to talk about things that parents typically keep private from their children, like money and health matters. Discussing them underscores the growing possibility of illness and death that inevitably come with aging. The best case scenario is when parents offer information and instructions on their own accord, but this isn’t so common.

Have the ‘Birthday Party Invitations’ Talk

So here are 7 questions to consider asking your parent.  The perfect time to do so might just be during a more lighthearted moment, such as discussing the guest list for the birthday party invitations! Here’s how to have a ‘birthday party invitations’ talk:

  1. WILL… Have you put your wishes in a legally-binding document, including the details about property?
  2. POWER OF ATTORNEY… Who do you want designated to make financial decisions on your behalf in case of an emergency?
  3. LIVING WILL… Have you thought about the details of your care and comfort in case of a terminal illness?
  4. HEALTH PROXY… Who would you want to make health-related decisions in case you were unable to?
  5. HIPPA RELEASE… Who should have access to your private medical information to help handle claims if needed?
  6. FIDUCIARY/TRUSTEE… Who do you want to have access to your financial accounts in case you are unable to? (Banks and other institutions may have proprietary requirements that could precede even a Power of Attorney.)
  7. LONG TERM CARE INSURANCE… Have you thought about the benefits of purchasing long-term care insurance to cover assisted living not covered by Medicare?

Follow-up by helping to get everything written down in legally binding documents. It’s a lot of leg-work and paperwork, so if you face resistance, do your part to facilitate the process. Make calls, get the proper documentation, follow through with all the parties involved.

Then, you can get back to party planning duties, including ordering fabulous birthday party invitations. For a wide variety of designs that you can personalize with your own text and photos, check the collection at www.looklovesend.com. Shoveling done…time to think Spring

Greetings from a very snowy Northeast.  Even as the days stay lighter for longer, we’ll be seeing white outside for many weeks to come.  But if you’re hosting a party in your home in the upcoming weeks, consider choosing a spring theme to bring bright color into your home and grant guests a welcome taste of green.  Whether you are sending out online birthday party invitations, baby or bridal shower invitations – a spring themed celebration can be surprisingly simple and inexpensive to achieve.  Read on for some of our favorite spring party tips.

Tissue pom-pom décor:  Make these simple tissue paper pom-poms to create an easy spring flower vibe. Buy colored tissue paper in bulk and get the kids involved in folding for this simple craft. Hang the pom-poms at varying heights across the party room for instant springtime appeal.

Planting activity: A shared activity makes every party more fun.  Buy clay pots and potting soil in bulk then allow guests to decorate their pots with colored ribbons and plant seeds for springtime flowers or herbs.  These plantings will double as a great party favor too!

Seasonal party food: Include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your party menu, seasonal ingredients to consider are: strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, blueberries, asparagus, basil and lime.

Spring cocktail: Feature a fresh seasonal drink such as a strawberry mojito, mint-garnished lemonade, or berry smoothie. Stock the bar with plenty of fresh fruit garnishes and striped straws to add a flavor of summertime nostalgia.

Checklist for Personalizing Your Wedding Response Cards

wedding-response-cardsThe wedding response card is the single most important component of your wedding invitation suite. Returned response cards tally your final headcount, menu selections, and provide correspondence with your guests. Make the most of this small card with our helpful checklist for personalizing your wedding response cards, starting with the basics:

  • Pre-addressed, stamped envelopes

Make it easy as for guests to get their response into the mail. Pre-stamp response card envelopes and print the return address directly onto the back flap. The address does not have to match the return address on the outer envelope of your wedding invitation, but should be for whomever is keeping track of your guest count.

  • RSVP date

Always request replies with a due date. If you’re mailing wedding invitations the recommended 8 weeks in advance, request replies 4 weeks before your wedding day. If mailing 6 weeks before, request replies 3 weeks before your wedding day. Also find out when your venue and caterer needs a final headcount.

  • Number attending line

Make it easy for guests to write in the number of people attending your wedding. This is especially important when inviting families, married couples who may decide for travel or expense reasons that only one will attend, or single guests who may bring a companion.

  • Menu selections

Your wedding response cards are the perfect way to get an entree count for a formal, sit-down wedding reception. Your  caterer can help provide simplified wording for your menu selections. Find out when they need that final entree count to help determine the reply due date.

  • Dietary requests

Whether or not you are tracking entree selections from guests, you or your caterer may want to know about any important dietary restrictions, especially potentially life-threatening allergies to possible menu options, such as shellfish or nuts.

  • Thematic response cards

Entertain your guests with unique or humorous response options. Word your response options in a way that ties into your wedding day theme or venue. One such response we’ve enjoyed came from a couple having their wedding at an oceanographic institute. The response card gave guests the following options to check:

YES, I think whales are cool. NO, I’m afraid of whales.

  • Special requests

Want guests to choose their ice cream for the sundae bar? What about collecting wedding song requests? The response card is the perfect place to involve your guests a bit more in the planning of a great party.

Personalize your wedding response cards with these or your own unique ideas, selecting from the beautiful designs at www.looklovesend.com. Our wedding response cards are designed to coordinate with your wedding invitations and other components that complete your wedding invitation suite, from save the dates through wedding thank you cards. LookLoveSend makes it easy to personalize all these components online, and we guarantee your complete satisfaction.

4 Questions About Wedding Save the Date Cards

wedding-save-the-date-cardsIf you’re embracing the virtues of sending wedding save the date cards, here are some of the most common questions surrounding timing, quantities and etiquette. Let us know if you’ve got another question about your wedding save the date cards that you need an answer for, and we’ll be glad to answer it!

Q: I haven’t settled on a wedding invitation design yet, but can I order Save the Dates now anyway even if they don’t match my invitations?

It’s more important to get your save the dates out 6-9 months in advance than to impress guests with being ultra-coordinated. That said, be careful about following up a save the date with a completely different style invitation. It could cause enough of a disconnect as to be confusing about whether it’s for the same event. One easy solution is to choose a personalized save the date design that features mostly a photo of the two of you rather than distinct design elements. This will give you more flexibility later on shopping for your wedding invitation design.

Q: My engagement is a long one, with more than a year to go before my wedding day. When should I send Save the Dates?

There isn’t really a need to send save the dates sooner than the standard 6-9 month time-frame, unless:

  • You’re planning a destination wedding
  • Your wedding involves significant travel expenses for some guests
  • Your wedding requires unusual advance booking, such as at popular resorts during the busy season

Q: I have less than six months until my wedding day–can I still send Save the Dates?

Yes, sending wedding save the date cards between 4-6 months is still enough time before the formal wedding invitation. Anything less than 4 months is counter-productive and just looks thoughtless and disorganized.

Q: Do I send a Save the Date to everyone on my guest list?

No, while you do not have to send a save the date card to everyone on your guest list, be sure you send a wedding invitation to everyone on the save the date list! Target save the dates for guests who:

  • Need extra notice to plan
  • You really want to be able to attend
  • Who will have to travel
